Producer Scott Kloustin sat down with Jon Rimanelli, founder of Detroit Aircraft Corporation to chat about the future of aircraft innovation, drones, and Detroit as a manufacturing center.

Detroit Aircraft Corporation is a private contractor for Lockheed Martin, and manufactures some of the highest quality drones and UAVs on earth.

Recently, Detroit Aircraft Corporation moved into the underutilized Detroit City Airport, to take advantage of the large amounts of usable airspace the city had to offer. They now manufacture their drones at the city airport location.

Rimanelli, an avid pilot, previously founded a company that produces printed circuit boards for custom applications.

According to Rimanelli, unmanned aircraft will grow to an $86B market size in the next 10 years. Drones have multiple commercial applications including;

  • First responder reconnaissance
  • Search and rescue,
  • Aerial film & cinematography,
  • Infrastructure inspections including buildings, bridges, and towers
  • Unmanned freight
