A new “made in Detroit” sunglass manufacturer is in town. Charlie V. is a new brand of luxury eyewear, set to capitalize on the Metro Detroit’s comparative advantage in manufacturing and injection molding capabilities, with a dash of ingenuity.

The sunglasses feature a “unique pivot hinge” technology, that allows the sunglass arms to pivot around before folding inward, so they match the natural curve of the sunglass frames.

The launch video features people driving boats around up north, leading this reporter to believe that these sunglasses are poised to compete with national brands like Maui Jim and Tommy Bahama sunglasses.

Invented by Algonac, MI resident Gerard Alcini, Charlie V’s are set to take the industry by storm by bringing sunglasses to a new level of style and functionality.

Charlie V’s are designed with an uncompromising commitment to excellence. I saw a need for a luxury brand with supreme wearability. Our unique hinge makes these sunglasses unlike any others on the market and allows the wearer impeccable freedom.

Inspired by Alcini’s father “Charlie Victor Alcini,” the glasses are manufactured in Michigan with impeccable attention to quality and detail.

The Charlie V. brand will launch via a Kickstarter campaign on November 5, 2015. Supporters will have the opportunity to be the first to own Charlie V. glasses as well as a number of other incentives. Alcini and his team hope to use funds raised from the crowdfunding efforts for further research, development, manufacturing and promotion. Long-term, the products will be sold online and through specialty retailers. Supporters can pledge to the campaign by visiting the Kickstarter Campaign..
